Stolen Vehicle: Dump Truck
Recovery: Chicago, IL
On June 13, 2007
Recovery Value $892,000
On May 24, 2007 a company in Calumet, IL had a LoJack installed on their 2002 International Dump Truck. Just three weeks later, they reported the truck stolen to the Calumet City Police. The vehicle information was entered into "LEADS" which automatically activated the hidden LoJack. Shortly after activation the LoJack signal was picked up by a Chicago PD helicopter.
The helicopter circled the area and was able to pinpoint the location of the signal. The pilot notified the Cook County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police. The Calumet City PD and the East Chicago Indiana PD were notified and responded to the area. A LoJack tracking unit pinpointed the location of the dump truck inside a very large fenced-in property. Officers entered the yard and recovered the truck. Numerous trucks and construction equipment which appeared to be in the process of being "chopped up" were also recovered at the scene.
The officers contacted the Lake County Sheriff's Department for assistance because of the size of the apparent "chop shop". Auto theft investigators responded and for the next week inventoried the 30+ stolen pieces of equipment. This included semi-tractors, mini-excavators, skid steers, trailers, compressors, generators, welders and their cargo. Some of the equipment had been stolen so recently, the owners didn’t even know that it was missing.
The site was closed and declared a hazmat site, due to the amount of diesel fuel and other substances that had been dumped on the ground. Once the ground has been cleaned, the site investigation will continue. Persons of interest have been identified and interviewed with the probability of many more finds and arrests.
The stolen dump truck was the only item at the site that was equipped with LoJack. Without the LoJack it is possible that this large chop shop may have gone unnoticed for a very long time!

| 1 Recovery Turns into 10 Recovery:
FRANCE
It has been approximately 2 month since Monsieur R, a
motorcycle enthusiast, had his Suzuki 750 GSXR stolen from
where it was parked on a path outside his office in
Courbevoie. The motorbike, which was not equipped with a
TRAQUEUR, was never recovered. In early May 2007,
Monsieur R decided to purchase a new Suzuki 1000 GSRX.
He wanted to feel assured against any risk so had it equipped
it with an alarm, TRAQUEUR and an anti-theft lock. In spite of
all his precautions, his new motorcycle was stolen on the
11th June between 9:30h and 10:30h from the same
location outside his office.
He declared the theft to the police and informed TRAQUEUR
that afternoon. The device was immediately activated and
the signal indicated that the motorcycle was being
transported in the direction of east Paris. At 21h that
evening, the signal confirmed that the motorcycle was
located in Montreuil.
A patrol from the National Police, backed up by a TRAQUEUR
technician, arrived to the location of the stolen motorcycle
and tracked the signal to an area where they recovered the
bike which had been concealed in a cubicle at the bottom of
a narrow, discrete passageway between two buildings.
Upon opening the cubicle, not only did the police find the
GSXR but also 10 more scooters, spare parts and registration
plates.
An investigation is underway and a happy and relieved
Monsieur R. was returned his motorcycle that very same day!

| Lamborghini Gallardo Recovery:
Italy
On Thursday July 26th 2007, at 09:36am LoJack Italia
received notification from TRAQUEUR France that one one of
TRAQUEUR’s customers had reported the theft of his bright
orange Lamborghini Gallardo to both TRAQUEUR and the
local police near Ancona on the eastern coast of Italy.
The owner reported that thieves had broken into his house at
dawn, used sleeping gas to knock-out the victim, and stole
the keys to the Lamborghini which was parked nearby.
LoJack Italia immediately activated it's network, and at
9:10pm the reply code was picked up from an area around
Ascoli Piceno, 122 KM south of Ancona.
Local undercover units (judiciary police) from Ancona and
Ascoli Piceno, whose vehicles were equipped with LoJack
Vehicle Tracking Units, picked up the reply code at
approximately 9:10pm. They tracked the LoJack signal to a
warehouse in an industrial area.
An overhead helicopter unit provided support but the thieves
apparently spotted the helicopter and fled into the Apennine
hills. The reply code was lost. The patrol vehicles continued
to comb the area, but without success. At 12:47am the
following morning, the vehicle was picked up by network
infrastructure on the other side of the Apennines near Tivoli
(east of Rome). At 1:15am, Lazio Polizia di Stato patrol
vehicles intercepted the Lamborghini on the A1 highway
from Rome to Naples, seized the vehicle and arrested the
two thieves, who were of Albanian origin.
| 1st Theft & Recovery Recovery:
Italy
On the early morning of Friday 30th March 2007, at around
4:30am Rome time, a Honda CBR600 motorcycle was stolen
from the street in the EUR district south of Rome. Thieves
stole the vehicle by cutting the iron stand to which it was
bolted. The owner telephoned the police and an activation
command was sent to all towers at 7:51am.
The LoJack signal was intercepted in Milan around 1:00am
early that Saturday morning. The Private Security
(MondialPol), which assists in tracking stolen vehicles north
of Italy, immediately responded in order to track the vehicle.
They picked up the reply code and homed in on a suburb of
Milan called Cologno Monzese.
At around 7:40am, after calling in the Carabinieri, they
tracked the location of the stolen motorcycle, only 14 hours
or so after the theft.
Authorities later raided the location as well as two annexed
garages and recovered the stolen LoJack-equipped
motorcycle. Authorities also identified at least two additional
stolen motorcycles that had been partially or fully
dismantled. Two suspects were taken in for questioning, and
one was subsequently charged.
Recently, LoJack Italia installed just a handful of LoJack Units
in motorcycles to test to see how the system would operate
in motorbikes. This recovery clearly demonstrates the
effectiveness of the LoJack system when installed in a
motorcycle. “I felt very privileged to have my motorcycle
equipped with LoJack as a test, it’s an extremely efficient
recovery system,” the owner commented to LoJack.
