Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the LoJack core technology?
The LoJack technology is based on radio frequency (RF) which is the best technology for tracking and recovering mobile assets with unprecedented ‘last mile’ precision which allows police to pin point a vehicle or asset to an exact location and not general area. As such RF will continue to be the core underlying technology for cars, trucks, commercial equipment and motorcycles recovery systems.
What is the difference between Radio Frequency technology and GPS/GSM?
Unlike GPS/GSM, radio frequency technology can guarantee ‘last mile’ tracking. The signal will also continue to emit through shipping containers or underground garages as it is not relying on line of sight to the satellite. Radio Frequency technology is also much less susceptible to jamming which is becoming an increasing problem in many markets.
We do appreciate the benefits of GPS/GSM for other applications and that’s why we also have products that incorporate the best of RF technology and GPS/GSM in one box
Where is LoJack looking for licensees?
Please visit our website for a list of our existing licensed territories.
We are looking to expand our technology into non-licensed territories of Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia.I think we need to be more global on this one.
How long does the application and screening process take?
Due to the nature of our business and in order to qualify our potential partners, we have a strenuous qualification process. We require business plans from our potential partners detailing how the LoJack business will be commercialized in the specified territory as well as extensive research on theft, recovery and market analysis.
Once this research has been evaluated, an extensive background check is undertaken on the potential partners. Subject to favourable results, a terms sheet will be signed in order that the partner can officially represent LoJack in their governmental, police and commercial negotiations.
The time taken to from signing a license agreement to becoming commercially operational depends on how quickly the specific frequency can be obtained which is an undefined process in many countries.
